The FUSE General Assembly held on October 25, 2025, provided a timely platform for discussing the future of teacher preparation in the Philippines. The highlight of the event was the presentation of Dr. Jennie V. Jocson, Executive Director V of the Teacher Education Council (TEC) Secretariat, who delivered an insightful talk on “TEC Directions on Teacher Education.”
Dr. Jocson outlined the Council’s ongoing and upcoming initiatives aimed at strengthening the country’s teacher education ecosystem. She emphasized that high-quality teachers begin with high-quality preparation, making it essential for institutions to align pre-service and in-service training with emerging national standards and global competencies.
Among the key directions she discussed were the refinement of teacher education policies, the continued implementation of competency-based standards, and enhanced collaboration between teacher education institutions and the Department of Education. Dr. Jocson also highlighted the importance of research-informed practices, digital literacy, and responsive curriculum design to ensure teachers are well-equipped for modern classroom challenges.
